The Special Investigation's Unit has decided there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against a Niagara Regional Police officer after an arrest in Welland.
During the afternoon of December 19th, 2017 residents reported a man going from home to home, knocking on doors.
Police then witnessed the man going into a backyard between two houses and he was arrested for break and entering. He was taken to hospital for injury assessment.
Officers say during the arrest, the man was tackled onto a grassy surface and resisted. When the man was put into the back of a cruiser, residents in the area witnessed him banging his head against the Plexiglas and metal partition.
Officials at the hospital say the man sustained injuries to his right eye socket and sinus.
The Director of the SIU says the evidence does not suggest the officer used an excessive amount of force during the arrest.
