Members of the Niagara Regional Police have been cleared by the Special Investigations Unit after a man was seriously injured during a chase.
On September 7th, police were told a pickup truck and attached trailer loaded with lawn tractors was stolen from a Niagara Falls home.
Later that same day, the NRP were called by the owner of a scrap yard who said two men were trying to sell him a stolen pickup truck, trailer, and lawn equipment.
The owner of the scrap yard also told police he believed the pair were under the influence of narcotics.
Police caught up with the truck and trailer, following it onto Beechwood Road before the driver veered off into the ditch and hit a tree.
A man was partially ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to hospital with rib fractures.
Officials with the SIU found the officers were not responsible for the crash.
