The Special Investigations Unit says a Niagara Regional Police Officer will not be facing criminal charges following the arrest of a 53 year old man.
The initial arrest happened in St. Catharines during the early morning hours of September 10th, 2016 when the NRP were called to help with a domestic situation.
At the time of his arrest, the man complained of wrist injuries, but x-rays at the hospital showed no new fractures but there was evidence of prior injuries.
SIU records show the man was three and a half times the legal limit to operate a vehicle when he was admitted to hospital.
During a visit to a different hospital the next day the man was diagnosed with rib injuries.
The SIU director has determined officers used an appropriate amount of force to overcome the man, who is said to have been violent and 'out of control' during the arrest.
