Saying they recognize how important it is to resolve cases in a timely manner, the Province's Special Investigation Unit has no timeline for when it will release information on a police shooting in Pelham that took place back in November.
A NRP officer was shot by a fellow officer during an altercation between the two men during a follow up investigation into an impaired driving collision.
SIU Spokesperson Monica Hudon telling CKTB the investigation into the Pelham incident is ongoing.
She says it's difficult to say how long the investigation will take as each case has its own requirements and procedures.
" In general, the length of an investigation will depend on a number of factors, including how long it takes to locate and interview witnesses, and how long it takes to analyze evidence. In many instances, the Unit must await receipt of reports from external experts and agencies (for example, from the Centre of Forensic Sciences or from the Coroner’s Office)."
Hudon adds the thoroughness of the investigation must take precedence over the length of time it takes to finish an investigation.
