In the interest of public safety, temporary fencing has been installed around a small section of sunken concrete that has created an uneven walking surface on part of the west Port Dalhousie pier.
The City of St. Catharines fenced off a two-metre-by-two-metre area around the perimeter of the sunken concrete on the west pier near Lakeside Park.
The fencing does not obstruct public use of the other available sections of the pier.
The Port Dalhousie piers are owned by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and leased by the City of St. Catharines.
The piers were closed in April 2015 following a report by the DFO which recommended closing the piers based on damage to their substructure.
The City will continue to monitor the Port Dalhousie Piers and the area of the sunken concrete.
