Social media users across the world are taking part in a 'Black Out' today as protests continue following the death of George Floyd.
Users are posting all black images to their Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook feeds in a show of solidarity with the protesters calling for and end to racism and police brutality.
Several music labels and entertainment companies will be using the hashtag #theshowmustbepaused to bring attention to the cause.
In a post, Capitol Records states, "In solidarity with our Black colleagues, artists and loved ones across the country who are reeling from the senseless taking of another innocent Black life, Capitol Music Group will not be conducting any business on Tuesday, June 2 in observance of 'Black Out Tuesday.'
Many other titans of the industry are taking part including The Rolling Stones, Warner Records, Abbey Road Studios, and Def Jam Recordings.
Protesters are asking people taking part in today's Black Out not to use the BlackLivesMatter hashtag, because they use that hashtag to communicate crucial information about ongoing events. Instead, use of the hashtag #BlackOutTuesday is encouraged.
George Floyd's family is calling for the charges against a police officer involved in the man's death to be upgraded to first-degree murder now that a Minneapolis medical examiner has ruled the death as a homicide.
The report by forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden states Floyd's heart stopped as police restrained him and compressed his neck.
