A group of Dunnville residents are pushing to secede from the union, so to speak, and join Niagara.
In a report in a local newspaper, resident Bonnie Stephens advised councillors during a recent meeting, that a group is moving toward removing Dunnville from Haldimand County and joining the Niagara Region.
She says as a result, council should direct staff to delay construction of a new administration building until they know the outcome of the secession effort.
At issue, is a belief that Dunnville's amalgamation with Haldimand County has failed the town and that the end of the regional government model is a failed experiment.
But Haldimand Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett says while it could happen, it won't be easy
He says it took people 25 years to bring an end to the regional government system along with thousands of names on petitions.
