A southwestern Ontario county has opened student-only COVID-19 testing centres.
Dr. Sudit Ranade, medical officer of health for Lambton County, says his team aims to process students with mild COVID-19 symptoms so they can return to school sooner.
Another goal is to reduce crowding at other assessment centres, where people who require more complicated, lengthy diagnoses will be converging this fall.
A third student-only site was to open today in the county that includes Sarnia, Ontario, in addition to two sites that have opened over the last week.
It's one solution to the pervasive long waits for tests, but Ranade says what works for his spread-out county with low prevalence of COVID-19 may not work everywhere.
One testing site in Ottawa offers a separate line for kids, but the hard-hit city's top doctor warned this week that the backlog of kids without symptoms awaiting tests may take a while to clear.
