A candidate for St. Catharines city council is launching a petition to reverse Premier Doug Ford's decision on the regional chair election.
On Friday, Premier Doug Ford announced he is planning to cancel the election of Regional Chair in Niagara, Peel, York, and Muskoka, sending local candidates scrambling.
Karrie Porter is calling on Queen's Park to allow the election for Niagara Regional Chair to go ahead as previously planned.
She calls the move 'an affront to local democracy'
The petition can be found on Porter's website.
This would have marked the first time Niagara's regional chair was elected at large.
