St. Catharines council is preparing to get tough on landlords who rent to students.
During last night's council meeting, Mayor Walter Sendzik warning landlords the city is looking at adopting a new bylaw with some teeth to it.
Council has directed staff to prepare a report and draft bylaw to regulate the rental housing business.
The bylaw will be modeled after one adopted by the city of Oshawa which Sendzik says has already survived a Supreme Court challenge.
Councillors also passed a motion last night and will form a task force to deal with events and holidays such as St. Patrick's Day that tend to lead to student parties.
Earlier this year, council passed a bylaw banning brewfing or rooftop parties after a St. Paddy's Day party got out of hand in a neighbourhood near the Pen Centre.
