St. Catharines Council has voted in favour of moving forward on a mandatory mask by-law.
A special meeting was held this afternoon and councillors voted in favour of staff proceeding with the creation of a mandatory mask by-law, which will be finalized next week by council.
The draft by-law would require people to wear masks or face coverings, if they are able to, when in public spaces indoors.
Children under 2 and residents who can't wear masks for medical reasons would be exempt.
The by-law will go before council next Monday for final approval.
On Wednesday, a special meeting of Niagara Regional Council will conduct a similar meeting.
