St. Catharines city council has committed $320,000 to a major sporting event.
Council hearing from members of the 2021 Canada Summer Games bid who say, should the region secure the games, they have the potential to generate $200 million in economic activity mainly in the Garden City.
Organizors say the cycling venue would be located downtown, baseball would be played at George Taylor Field, Kiwanis Field would host soccer, basketball would be played at the Meridian Centre, rowing at the Henley, and wrestling at Seymour Hannah.
Members of the Summer Games council will conduct site inspections March 1st and name the successful bidder later in the month or early April.
And a side note, after joking Councillor Matt Harris has to buy a suit, council selecting Harris to be the deputy mayor for 2017.
