St. Catharines Council was talking trash last night.
After garbage collection headaches plagued the region following Christmas, city council voted last night urging the region to take a close look at Emterra's contract and even consider alternatives.
The waste collection company blamed the delays on weather, staffing issues, and an aging fleet, but Councillor Mat Siscoe says this isn't the first time residents have found their garbage left at the curb.
In fact, Siscoe says some residents were finding other places for their trash during the delays.
"Some of my neighbours who I think were perhaps a bit frustrated that the garbage hadn't been picked up decided the end of my driveway was the drop off depot and so extra bags started to show up on my driveway, always tagged appropriately so I can't fault them for that, but people aren't always sure so they reach out to whatever councillor happens to be closest."
Waste collection is the responsibility of the Niagara Region.
