A St. Catharines councillor is making a push to get rid of single use plastic bags.
During tonight's meeting, Councillor Kevin Townsend will introduce a motion to ban the bag by December of next year.
Townsend says it's a way to cut back on both our carbon footprint and our waste.
The city has already banned plastic straws at municipal facilities.
The motion also calls for the city to work with businesses to come up with alternatives to plastic bags.
