With police actions under growing scrutiny, a St. Catharines councillor is calling on the Niagara Police Service to purchase body cameras for front line officers.
Mat Siscoe says the cameras could help determine events during police interactions with the public.
Siscoe says the NRP decided in 2018 to wait to see what the Toronto Police Service would do, and now Toronto is moving to equip officers with the cameras.
He says he introduced a motion at last week's council meeting, because he feels now is the time to have the discussion again.
The councillor says when council meets today, the motion will probably end up being moved to the city's Diversity and Inclusion committee for discussion first.
Siscoe admits it is a divisive issue with some for and some against.
