If you live in St. Catharines, don't be surprised to find a firefighter knocking at your door on Saturdays next month.
Firefighters will be sharing fire safety messages as the holiday season can be a dangerous time of year for house fires.
Acting Fire Chief Jeff McCormick says "We are getting into that festive time of year and we know while enjoying the holidays people tend to cut loose and get a little more care-free. But, because people do let their guards down, the holidays can be a dangerous time of year for house fires. Too often, these fires are caused by careless smoking or careless cooking and are totally preventable."
Firefighters will be going door-to-door December 1st, 8th, and 15th from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. As part of the department's Alarmed for Life Fire Safety Awareness Program firefighters offer home safety checks and test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms.
