The operators of a home daycare on York Street were fined $6,000 for fire code violations relating to missing carbon monoxide alarms after a recent ruling by the Ontario Court of Justice.
Marie and Ian Watton pleaded guilty last month to three Ontario Fire Code violations for not having working carbon monoxide alarms outside sleeping areas at their York Street home.
The property was missing working carbon monoxide alarms outside the sleeping areas on the main floor, the second floor and in the basement.
The charges stem from a kitchen fire at the home daycare in October 2016.
Fire investigators found the home daycare had working smoke alarms but were missing carbon monoxide alarms, life-saving devices that alert the presence of an otherwise undetectable poisonous gas.
