If the City of St. Catharines has its way, taxpayers will not pay a single cent for the repair work at the Kiwanis Aquatics Centre.
In July a portion of the ceiling tiles and a light fixture came crashing down. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the pool has been dealing with a lengthy repair process ever since.
Mayor Walter Sendzik told Post Media the city is seeking reimbursement for the more than $100,000 repair bill.
The paper reporting an investigation by the city shows a cable holding up the acoustic tiles was not fastened tightly enough, eventually pulling down the tiles and lights.
Legal staff and insurance are now looking into the matter and trying to determine where the blame falls for the incident, but this initial phase is expected to last into September.
The City is also examining similar options when it comes to the $4 million repairs at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre for problems that caused the icepads to heave.
