The City of St.Catharines is putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to affordable housing.
Council has decided to reimburse the YWCA thousands of dollars in fees when it builds a non-profit, affordable housing complex in Merritton.
Councillor Lori Littleton made a motion to cover over $35-thousand dollars in fees, which was passed by fellow councillors.
She says while building affordable housing isn't in the city's mandate, councils need to use what is in their toolbox to help address the growing problem.
The 24-unit building will be constructed at 176 Oakdale Ave.
It will include four emergency shelter units as well as 20 units of long-term housing.
