St. Catharines Fire Chief Dave Wood is reminding residents to keep anything that can burn away from stovetops after a weekend kitchen fire.
The blaze caused $30,000 dollars in damage but luckily no injuries were reported.
It happened at a home at 26 Johnston Street around 5:20 Sunday evening.
Wood says the cause was accidental, a burner on the stove was left on after someone had been cooking.
The fire happened when some groceries crowding the area caught fire and spread to nearby cabinets.
Wood says statistics from the Ontario Fire Marshal show cooking fires are the second-leading cause of fatal fires in Ontario.
