A pair of landlords in St. Catharines have been slapped with $5,000 in fines for failing to install working carbon monoxide alarms.
Xiaoyan Wu and Weili Jiang pled guilty to Ontario Fire Code violations on Friday; they own a rental property at 48 Merigold Street.
The court imposed a $2,500 fine plus court costs for each of the owners.
Under the Ontario Fire Code, carbon monoxide alarms are required outside sleeping areas at properties where a fuel burning appliance is installed.
