A St. Catharines activist is petitioning the DSBN for better resources for LGBT youth, and to fly the pride flag for pride month in June.
Rob Gill made a presentation to the District School Board of Niagara on Tuesday, saying he thinks they need to do more.
He says from kindergarden to grade 12, he attended three DSBN schools in St. Catharines and had a "terrible" experience.
Gill says he understands that it was a different time, even though he's only 30, but says other smaller boards in Ontario are doing more.
He says something as simple as having the pride flag up for pride month would help LGBT students.
When he was a student, Gill says seeing the pride flag would have shown him that school was a safe space.
At the meeting, Gill says he had an argument with a trustee.
Gill says he has called out DSBN trustee for Grimsby/Lincoln Elizabeth Klassen in the past for comments she's made on Twitter.
We are coordinating an interview with Klassen as well.
