A 53 year old St. Catharines man is facing charges after allegedly using his car to chase down a group of teens.
The group of teens was approached by a man in his vehicle on Powerview Ave in St. Catharines last night.
The male was irate and began cursing and yelling at the children, while accusing them of trespassing on his property from his vehicle.
He then parked continuing to confront the children from inside his vehicle parked at his home as he threatened the youths, revved his engine, and eventually grabbed one of the teenagers by the shirt.
The teenager was able to escape his hold and began running.
The man then started to chase the teenager in his vehicle, dangerously driving over grass, gardens, stones, and ditches, narrowly missing this teenager and their group of friends while continuing to threaten the teenagers.
A large crowd began to gather as sports teams and neighbours in the area heard the commotion and someone called the police.
When police arrived to the man’s home on Powerview, he refused to speak to police forcing officers to obtain a Judicial order to enter his home and arrest him.
Because of the man’s erratic behavior crises negotiators and members of the tactical unit of the NRP were also called in to help with surrender.
The man eventually exited his home at which time he was arrested without incident.
Gene Carter is now charged with assault with a weapon, assault, uttering threats of death/harm, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
The police are asking for any witnesses of this incident who have not already spoken to the police to contact the investigators, Detective Sergeant David Pierini and Detective Constable Joe Peazel at 905-688-4111.
