A local resident says the old GM plant in St.Catharines is not only an eye-sore, it's a public safety issue.
Jack Profijt joining CKTB saying that since construction started on the Ontario Street plant, he's seen an increase of rats and rodents.
Bayshore bought the property and announced four years ago that they would be transforming the site into retirement residences, apartment lofts, commercial businesses and a technical trade school.
Construction work has been ongoing at the site with mainly demolition work taking place.
Profijt says the property is not secure and teens are using it to hang out.
Mayor Walter Sendzik has told CKTB that city workers are looking to ensure the site is secure.
Profijt says Bayshore needs to take responsibility to make sure the site is safe.
He is also worried about property values for the neighbourhood with a 'disaster' like that down the street.
The St.Catharines Standard reported back in June that the city was gong after Bayshore for 2.46 million dollars in unpaid property taxes.
Bayshore tells CKTB they have discussed this in detail with Brian York, the city's Manager of Economic Development & Government Relations.
