St. Catharines' M.P. will be serving as the Deputy Leader of the Government in the House of Commons.
The Prime Minister made the announcement this morning.
As Deputy House Leader, M.P. Chris Bittle will be working with House Leader Bardish Chagger and Chief Government Whip Pablo Rodriguez to shepherd the government's agenda through parliament.
Bittle says he is deeply honoured by the appointment and says it's humbling to follow in the shoes of Scarborough-Agincourt M.P. Arnold Chan.
"Arnold was one of the most respected voices in Parliament and a true gentleman. It was my honour to have him as a seatmate in the House and witness first-hand his intelligence, poise and humour. Arnold made us all better Members of Parliament, helped elevate the debate in the house and made Canada a better place for all."
Chan passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. He served as Deputy Government House leader from 2015 until his death last week.
