Niagara is trying to address the growing issue of drug overdoses with its first ever temporary overdose prevention site.
Positive Living Niagara will host the six-month supervised injection site for 6 months at 120 Queenston Street in St.Catharines.
Executive Director Glen Walker tells CKTB a funding agreement has been reached with the Ontario government and they are now hiring to get the centre up and running for September.
Once four staff members are hired and trained, the site will run 7 days a week 9am-5pm treating 40 patients a day.
Walker says he is looking to hire someone with healthcare and emergency services background.

He says the goal of the program is to create a safe, welcoming environment for people struggling with drug abuse.
Walker says the clinic will offer advice for drug users, and allow them to inject their own drugs under their supervision.
He says it's all about building trusting relationships with drug users and offering support services and connecting them with the appropriate services.
Walker says they are hoping to create a permanent site.
