The owners of an industrial storage facility in St. Catharines are facing hefty fines after pleading guilty to fire code violations.
The corporate owner of the industrial property at 55 Oakdale Ave pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to maintain the sprinkler system and one charge of failing to comply with an inspection order to repair the system.
The company faces $15,000 in fines, while the officers of 55 Oakdale Investments, Joseph and Mark Accardi are also being hit with a fine of $2,500 each.
The pair pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to maintain the sprinkler system.
Charges were laid after a fire at the property back in October of 2017.
Officials say St. Catharines firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to combustible materials stored in the building, which could have made the situation worse had they ignited.
Meanwhile the court also fined another corporation (8 Queenston St.,1856281 Ontario Corp) $2,500 for violations relating to the storage of excessive combustibles in a unit.
Howard McCullough is also facing a $200 fine for failing to comply with an inspection order.
