The city of St. Catharines is being applauded for being a senior friendly place.
An Ontario Age-Friendly Community Recognition Award was given to the city by the Ministry of Seniors Affairs yesterday, recognizing the mayor's annual older adults forum, the Compassionate City initiative, and citywide advocacy for affordable housing and inter-municipal transit.
The city has also created an action plan to help seniors stay active and engaged - a feat only 88 municipalities can lay claim to.
