The city of St.Catharines says Queenston Street is about to go from CAA’s worst road to better than ever.
Officials say that road and sewer work on the street between Page Street and Eastchester Avenue will begin Wednesday, May 10th.
When completed, Queenston Street will have new storm and sanitary sewers, sidewalks, bike lanes, landscaping, traffic signals, parking bays and a fresh coat of asphalt.
Work will last until the end of 2017.
Drivers are advised to expect delays while work takes place, including rolling road closures weekdays from 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. between Page Street and Eastchester Avenue.
Rolling road closures are required in order to install the new storm and sanitary sewers along Queenston Street.
One lane of traffic will be open on evenings and weekends.
Rolling road closures will be in place until September.
Schools and businesses will be open for the duration of the project and access to roads along Queenston Street will remain open for residents.
To minimize disruptions for area residents, large trucks will be detoured along major roads rather than through smaller residential streets.
Some transit routes along Queenston Street will be detoured, but Paratransit service will operate as regularly scheduled. Residents with questions about transit and paratransit service should contact St. Catharines Transit at 905.687.5555 or visit www.yourbus.com.
