One man has been taken to hospital as the Niagara Regional Police responded to reports of gunshots in St. Catharines.
NRP Media Relations Specialist Stephanie Sabourin says when officers and EMS arrived at Tremont and Glendale they discovered one injured man, but could not find a suspect.
The man was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was eventually airlifted to an out-of-town hospital.
Sabourin says the investigation continues today.
"The scene is continuing to be held; it will be held through the majority of the day today. It will be released at some point. At this point we have officers who will be on the ground canvassing the area, we have forensics on the scene who will be doing the investigation as well."
At this point, the police do not think this was a random event.
"We do have witnesses and so police are going through the investigation in terms of that. We are able to say at this point that it doesn't appear to be a random shooting, but that is definitely part of the investigation."
