The City of St. Catharines will be hiring a climate change coordinator thanks to $125,000 in grant money from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
The coordinator will be looking at what the Garden City needs to do to prepare for the future effects of climate change, which may include training outside workers to deal with extreme weather, or changing snow and ice removal procedures.
Mayor Walter Sendzik notes the city has already seen some of the local impacts of climate change, including rising water levels, extreme cold, and unpredictable weather.
The city is also receiving a second grant worth $50,000 through the Federation's Green Municipal Fund and Municipal Asset Management Program.
That money will be used for software to study road conditions.
