St.Catharines will stay the course with Sendzik.
Voters have thrown their support behind incumbent Mayor Walter Sendzik giving him an overwhelming 71 percent of the vote with more than 21,500 votes.
This will be the second term for Sendzik who beat fellow mayoral candidates Richard Stephens who received 5800 votes, Johnny Tischler with 1400 votes and Tunde Soniregun getting 1100 votes.
The voter turnout was disappointing at 34 percent.
Sendzik joining CKTB during Niagara Votes coverage saying his first priority is to sit down with his new council members.
He says it feels great to get re-elected saying it's very humbling and a wonderful honour.
Sendzik is hoping that the region has been reset and he looks forward to all the new faces at regional council.
St. Catharines is made of 6 wards, each ward electing 2 city councillors.
Ward 1 (Merriton) elected Greg Miller and Lori Littleton.
Ward 2 (St. Andrews) re-elected Joe Kushner and Matt Harris.
Ward 3 (St. George’s) elected Sal Sorrento and Kevin Townsend.
Ward 4 (St. Patrick’s) elected Karrie Porter and Mat Siscoe.
Ward 5 (Grantham) elected Bill Phillips and Dawn Dodge.
Ward 6 (Port Dalhousie) re-elected Carlos Garcia and Bruce Williamson.
St. Catharines had 23 people running for six seats on regional council. The final six are Jim Bradley, George Darte, Sandie Bellows, Laura Ip, Brian Heit, and Tim Rigby.
