The city of St. Catharines has opened a cooling station as Niagara remains under a heat warning.
The St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre will open as a cooling station Wednesday, June 10, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The centre will open the lobby solely as a place for residents to escape the heat.
There will be no customer service, food or beverages available, except water, and a list of safety protocols will be in place to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
“While social distancing guidelines are firmly in effect for the Niagara region, it is important our residents have a place to cool off during the current heat alert,” said Director of Community, Recreation and Culture Services Phil Cristi. “We will take every precaution to ensure safety of staff and those attending.”
