The Niagara Regional Police Emergency Task Unit and Crisis Negotiators closed down a street in St. Catharines for multiple hours yesterday.
Police officials confirm they were in the Westland and Pelham Road area of the city late yesterday morning and into the early evening.
Constable Phil Gavin says a person has been taken into custody.
According to residents in the area, police were talking with a man inside one of the homes.
Early reports indicate the man may have been armed.
