The unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level in more than 40 years as Canada closes out a calendar year that saw it produce jobs at a pace not seen since 2002.
In Niagara, December's unemployment rate rings in at 6.8; down from 7.1 in November.
Across the country Statistics Canada says the rate has reached the lowest mark since comparable data became available in 1976, with the economy generating 78,600 new positions, including 23,700 full time jobs last month.
The economy added more than 422,000 jobs in 2017, with the gains driven by over 394,000 new full time positions.
