Niagara is under an extreme cold weather alert
It's issued by Niagara Region Public Health when the temperature is expected to drop below minus 15 Celcius.
The alert mobilizes outreach workers and community agencies.
An overnight emergency shelter has been set up in Niagara Falls at the Salvation Army on Dorchester Road for the next three nights It's available from 6:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m.
In St. Catharines, the city’s warming centres at Market Square and the Russell Avenue Community Centre will remain open this week for anyone who needs a place to keep warm and escape the winter weather elements.
