A stepfather will be sentenced today after pleading guilty in the death of a seven year old boy.
Justin Kuijer entered the guilty plea in a St. Catharines court on Friday, following the death of Nathan Dumas in March of 2017.
When police arrived on scene at the Queenston Street apartment, the boy's mother told them she had found him unconscious in bed with a belt from a bathrobe tied around his neck.
He died in hospital the next day.
About 20 minutes after getting the 911 call from the boy's mother, police were called to the Royal Bank on Martindale Road after Kuijer stabbed a bank employee with a metal letter opener.
He had tried unsuccessfully to get a mortgage at the bank several times.
Kuijer was the subject of a nation-wide manhunt following the attacks. He was caught five days later in Kenora and arrested at gunpoint by the OPP.
