Environment Canada warning of a potential for heavy snowfall late tomorrow into Friday morning.
Rain is expected to develop tomorrow as a strengthening low pressure system from Texas approaches the Great Lakes tonight and tomorrow.
As the low pressure system passes by just to the south of the region late Thursday, brisk winds will begin to push in much colder air from the north.
Thus rain will change over quickly to snow by tomorrow evening as temperatures drop below the zero degree mark.
There is a potential for snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm or more late tomorrow and into Friday morning.
In addition, strong and gusty northeast winds to 60 km/h may result in areas of blowing snow and very poor visibility Thursday night into Friday morning.
This late winter snowfall may have a significant impact on the commute to work on Friday morning.
Conditions should improve later Friday morning as the low pressure area moves away across Pennsylvania to the east coast.
Environment Canada is closely monitoring this interesting situation.
Warnings may be required as this event draws closer.
Across the border, The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for all of Western New York from Thursday evening until Friday evening.
