A local animal advocate will be recognized by Humane Canada with a special award.
Executive Director of the Lincoln County Humane Society Kevin Strooband will receive his award at the National Animal Welfare Conference in Montreal.
Officials say one of the reasons he has been selected for the award is his role in spearheading Ontario's first full-service, accredited veterinary clinic run by the Humane Society.
The clinic in St. Catharines is open six days a week and has been the site of more than 30,000 spay/neuter surgeries.
He is also being recognized for driving more than 1,726 km last summer to find homes for more than 60 cats and one dog.
