A task force is recommending the city of St. Catharines buy up the old Glen Ridge school property and turn it into a park.
The task force presented its findings last night at city council.
It wants the city to buy the former school site, turn a portion of it into parkland and sell off the remainder for use that is compatible with the character of the signature neighbourhood.
Council voted to refer the recommendations back to staff for further study.
Councillors also agreeing to a request to ask its heritage committee to designate the school building, built in 1928, a heritage site.
