A 16-year-old who died after an apparently unprovoked stabbing at a Toronto subway station is being remembered as a kind person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Police have said Gabriel Magalhaes died on Saturday night after being stabbed at Keele subway station, where he had been sitting on a bench when he was approached.
The principal of the high school Gabriel attended says in a letter to students and parents today that the teen will be sorely missed.
Etobicoke Collegiate Institute principle Jennifer Kurtz says Gabriel was a kind student who enjoyed school and his death is a ``tragic loss.''
Those who knew Gabriel have set up a memorial with flowers and notes outside Keele subway station.
A 22-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with one count of first-degree murder in the case.
My heart breaks for the family and friends mourning the loss of Gabriel Magalhaes. A son and brother, his life ended far too soon.

This was a senseless and unprovoked murder that cannot be tolerated. Everyone in Toronto and Ontario deserves to feel safe in their community.
