Some frightening moments for a swimmer from Cambridge, Ontario attempting to cross Lake Erie.
41 year old Michael Kenny was taking part in Embrace the Challenge-Erie Crossing which saw a dozen solo swimmers and several relay teams attempt to swim the lake from Sturgeon Point in Hamburg and to Crystal Beach.
Kenny was just past the half way point when he noticed he and the safety boat following him had ended up getting separated.
Despite the 6 to 8 feet high waves he just kept swimming until a Coast Guard boat showed up and told him he had to get out of the water.
The event was designed to raise awareness of pollution in the Great Lakes and President Trump's efforts to cut funding to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
