The Terry Fox Canada Flag is now flying high above the city of St. Catharines.
An official flag raising was held yesterday afternoon in advance of the September 15th event at Brock University.
MP Chris Bittle has been named as this year's run captain.
"As a cancer survivor I'm happy to do a small part in this run. Terry Fox to all Canadians is an incredible person who has inspired a movement to end cancer in our lifetime," he said Facebook video after the event.
Participants will be trying to top last year's fundraising total of $52,000.
To help reach that goal, high schools in the area are hosting a friendly competition to see which team can raise the most money.
Two city councillors, Mat Siscoe and Lori Littleton, will also be competing to see who can post the fastest run time on the day of the event - residents are encouraged to get in on the fun by donating to whichever councillor they think will be the first to cross the line.
