Authorities are investigating the possibility that Saturday's deadly mass shooting in the U-S-Mexico border city of El Paso, Texas was a hate crime.
Police say a young gunman opened fire in a Walmart and shopping area packed with up to three-thousand people, leaving 20 dead and 26 injured.
El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen says the suspect surrendered and was arrested outside Walmart -- and while his name wasn't released, police confirm he is from the town of Allen, near Dallas, more than one-thousand kilometres away.
Authorities are working to confirm whether a racist, anti-immigrant screed posted online beforehand was written by the suspect.
In it, the writer expresses concern that an influx of Hispanics into the U-S will replace aging white voters and turn Texas blue in upcoming elections.
