The Mayors of Niagara's three largest cities will be makingĀ a push starting next week, to amalgamate their three transit systems.
The mayors who sit on the region's inter municipal transit working group, along with Regional Chair Alan Caslin will ask councillors and the public over the next few weeks for feedback on the plan.
A consultant hired to review Niagara's transit system has come up with three options , keep the status quo, merge local and inter-muncipal transit or make the region solely responsible for all transit in Niagara.
ButĀ members of the transit group favour a model that merges St. Catharines, Welland and Niagara Falls transit.
Each city would continue to fund their own transit, and the region would fund inter-muncipal transit but the four systems would be governed by a single board.
