Several local agencies will be marking International Overdose Awareness Day today to spread the message that overdose deaths are preventable.
As the opioid epidemic continues across the country and here in Niagara, Positive Living Niagara, the Niagara Falls Community Health Centre and the Overdose Prevention and Education Network invite residents to attend a gathering and memorial to remember those who have passed away.
The event will be held this evening starting at 6 pm at the Niagara Falls Community Health Centre.
On Saturday, several local landmarks will be lit in purple in honour of the day including Schmon Tower, Bridge 13 in Welland, the Peace Bridge and the Mighty Niagara.
