Toronto City Council is considering taking a stand against General Motors.
A local councillor is bringing forward a motion next week that calls on the city to stop buying Mexican-made GM vehicles, if the company goes ahead with its plan to shutter its Oshawa operations.
The motion seems to have the support of Mayor John Tory.
In a statement, Tory indicated he agreed with the concerns raised in the motion and planned to support it, but wants to hear from city staff on whether it's possible.
The city's fleet consists of 5,500 vehicles and parts and according to the motion, 372 were produced by GM.
It is possible to tell which GM vehicles were manufactured in Mexico.
Their vehicle identification numbers begin with a three.
