A vigil was held yesterday to remember an animal activist who was struck and killed by a pig transport truck outside a Burlington slaughterhouse.
Sixty five year old Regan Russel had been standing vigil for the pigs as they were brought to slaughter at Fearman's Pork on Appleby Line and Harvester Road.
Witnesses say she was giving the pigs water in the truck when she was struck.
She was a member of the group Toronto Pig Save.
This comes days after the province announced a new bill making it illegal to interfere with animals in transport or to protest on farms.
