From a vacant parking lot where the Atlas Motel used to stand, to a brand new start for five families in Welland.
Habitat For Humanity Niagara is celebrating its 25th anniversary by building it's largest project to date with a million dollar, multi-home build Afton Ave.
Five homes have been constructed, and Habitat volunteer teams continue to work hard to ensure the homes will be ready for the families, which includes 16 children come December.
Today volunteers from 610 CKTB, 105.7 EZ Rock, and 97.7 HTZ participated in the Women Build month of September by laying floors.
Families who will live in the homes were on hand since they need to complete 500 volunteer hours, and will also be required to pay a 15-year mortgage based on their income.
Tara, a single mother of three says it's a dream come true to be able to own her own home again.
She says Habitat is an amazing organization and she can't wait to start her new life in a home she's helped build.
Tara is moving her teen boys to Welland from Thorold.
Manager, Development & Communications Dawn Marie Cavasin was on-site today saying this build is very unique for various reasons.
She says it's the largest and also marks a unique partnership with the Niagara Peninsula Aboriginal Area Management Board.
Indigenous youth from across southern Ontario are helping with the Welland build.
A home dedication ceremony will be held in December and families are expected to be in for Christmas.
We will let you know details of the ceremony when the date is set.
