The motto of this story is, don't take a floatie out onto the lake.
Hamilton police were called to rescue a family of three, all adults, who called for help around 2:00 yesterday morning after the giant inflatable pink flamingo they were on floated too far from shore out onto Lake Ontario.
The trio had gone into the water from Pier 4 around 10 the night before stocked with oars and an air horn but no life jackets.
After floating for four hours they decided to call 911.
The marine unit quickly found the family about four kilometres from shore.
